Self-discoveries?
Long-time and recent self-discoveries finally put into words and success in dealing with it
I seem to have an aversion to using my active brain energy to remember to do daily things. BUT if I develop those things into a routine or habit, I can free up some thinking space! 😊 I know better than to try to change too much at once since that only ever resulted in failure. Therefore, I have begun to adopt one good habit a week and tie it to another habit. So far so good! One example is remembering to do my daily stretches that are essential to my being able to move. After trying several different things, I found the trick. Our habit is to watch one comedy episode of a certain series (first it was M*A*S*H, now Gilligan’s Island) before heading off to bed. The beginning song etc. is my cue to get on the floor for my stretches. We let the intro play instead of skipping ahead so that I can get though at least part of my routine before the show starts. I can watch the show while I complete my stretches. I hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds and I have found impressive results. It is very encouraging. Another example is remembering to take a vitamin. I already had a habit of only eating breakfast after 10:30 and I always have yogurt, ground flaxseed and protein powder. My new addition is to take the vitamins with it.
My last week’s addition is to make an effort to remember to do my daily facial regime when I brush my teeth before bed and when I get dressed for the day in the morning. It is a normal thing to do but I have been lazy and skipping it. With the success I’ve had incorporating the other habits, it has encouraged me to not be so lazy.
Next week I add another thing to my stretches – a Pilates move I think….
